Camiguin Island is an island located in the northern part of Mindanao. Aptly called as an “Island Born of Fire,” this island has seven volcanoes, with two still considered as active. With its scenic natural beauty, many tourists flock to this island to see what Camiguin is all about.

Camiguin is known as the “island born of fire” due to volcanic eruptions that shaped the province. In fact, the number of volcanoes in Camiguin, at seven, exceeds the number of its towns. “Come again” has become Camiguin's catchphrase to entice visitors to return.

Camiguin Island has the smallest population in Region X; and in the Philippines, it is second to the smallest. Its population was 68,039 in 1995 according to the National Statistics Office which is 5% more than that of 1990.

Getting to Camiguin Island: flight, bus, Ferry

  1. The quickest way to reach is by booking a direct flight to Camiguin airport. You can also take a 2-hour bus ride from Cagayan de Oro to Balingoan and a ferry ride from Balingoan to Camiguin island. If you’re from Bohol, getting to Camiguin would be easier via a ferry.

  2. Rent motorbikes, multicabs, vans or motorcycles when touring the island. If you’re traveling on a budget, take public transport. Don’t worry, the drivers are approachable. They will be more than happy to assist and give you directions.

  3. Whether you plan to take private tours or on your own, Camiguin is the place to be.

  4. You can’t visit Camiguin and not see this place. White Island isn’t exactly an island, to begin with. Located at Mambajao, a powdery white sandbar awaits you at White Island.

  5. You’ll be surrounded by crystal clear waters and two volcanoes. The inviting waters of White Island are ideal for swimming. You can also do sunbathing and make sure to bring a camera with you.

  6. For six people, it would cost about PHP 420 for a round trip to White Island. When in Camiguin, this place is a must-see.

  1. Take a relaxing hot bath for only PHP 30 (entrance fee) at Ardent Hot Spring. It’s located at Mt. Hibok Hibok in Mambajao. If you aren’t on a private tour, you can hire a motorcycle for PHP 80 to get to the place.

  2. The hot spring has four separate pools. It’s best to visit it by early evening, just before you head back to your hotel. The warm bath will help you sleep better.

  3. You can also stay overnight in Ardent Hot Spring they have available cottages for rent.

  1. When Mt. Vulcan erupted in the 1870s, it sank some parts of Camiguin including this cemetery. To get there, head to Bonbon town and ask the boatmen to take you to the cemetery.

  2. You’ll know it’s the Sunken Cemetery when you see a huge cross in the sea. The spot is ideal for taking postcard-perfect photos. Don’t visit just for the photos though; it’s best to explore what’s underneath.

Katibawasan Falls.

It is actually one of the best spots I recommend for you to visit when you're in Camiguin Island, Philippines.

Katibawasan Falls is located at the foot of Mt. Timpoong, Barangay Upper Pandan, approximately five kilometers southeast of the Municipality of Mambajao.

According to the town folks, the waterfalls relatively measures 250 feet high down-rushing into a man-made rock pool. The bluish-green pool is surrounded by small and a few of large boulders which are natural stones from rivers, the easily grown terrestrial herb Spathoglottis Plicataground also known as the ground orchids, huge trees, and wild and giant fern beds.

Tuasan Falls

is located in Catarman Camiguin

From the main tourist area of Mambajao, it’s approximately a 30-minute drive to reach Tuasan Falls Camiguin.
